The CFTC is reportedly planning to review Crypto.com's new sports event contracts, though this scrutiny isn't expected to affect the platform's Super Bowl derivatives offerings.

According to Bloomberg News sources, the CFTC is voting on implementing a 90-day review period for these contracts. However, since the review would conclude after the February 9th Super Bowl in New Orleans, it shouldn't impact those specific offerings.

The regulatory body's main concern appears to be potential violations of gaming laws. While Crypto.com announced these first-of-their-kind derivatives just before Christmas, the holiday timing left the CFTC with limited review opportunity.

The timing is particularly notable given the upcoming presidential transition. A Crypto.com representative expressed disappointment that the current CFTC leadership would consider this action rather than allowing the incoming administration to make such determinations.

The sports event contracts market could represent a significant shift in sports wagering. Unlike traditional sportsbooks that require state-by-state approval, federally regulated firms like Crypto.com could potentially offer services nationwide. Currently, sports betting is legal in 38 states and Washington, DC, with Missouri set to join later this year.

Crypto.com has already expanded its sports event contracts to include NFL conference championships and the final three college football playoff games, demonstrating the platform's commitment to growing this new market segment despite potential regulatory challenges.

The company operates through Crypto.com | Derivatives North America, which maintains CFTC regulation, and continues to push forward with its innovative sports betting products despite the pending review.
